Susan Edwards
Susan Edwards was born in New York and raised in Florida by her mother and grandmother whose love of reading and learning as well as their wanderlust greatly influenced her.
Susan served for fifteen years as a Phi Theta Kappa chapter advisor, first with the Omega Sigma chapter at Houston Community College and then with the Beta Lambda Mu chapter at Lone Star College-CyFair and, when she wasn’t working on Honors in Action projects with her students, traveled to all fifty states and six continents (she’s working on Antarctica).
She traveled to Jackson, Mississippi in January 2007 to head the Honors Program Department for Phi Theta Kappa. Her role at Headquarters includes working with the Honors Program Committee to establish the biennial Honors Study Topic and to develop the Honors Program Guide. Susan organizes the programs for the annual Honors Institute, Faculty Scholar Conference, and Honors Seminars, and works with the other members of the Hallmarks Geek Squad and other Headquarters staff members to develop and promote Honors in Action programs.
When Susan first came to Mississippi with her husband, Jeff, they brought fourteen-year-old Abby, their beautiful calico cat. Since living here, Jeff has become the sole male in a household that includes his wife, two cats and three dogs, all of whom, except his wife, are named for First Ladies. This is fitting karma for a man who claimed that Goodman, Mississippi was “just a bit north of Jackson” and a woman who, having traveled the world, should have checked her atlas more closely.
